The graduation party was delicious! I finally had really island grind with a big community of big people I didn't know. We didn't see Ocean's 13 last night though, but I did meet up with Deborah and went back to Wailuku (other side of the island) while Mei was over there. I was supposed to go back with Mei once the thing she went to over there was done but I ended up staying with Deb.
Her parents cook the best island style food! Even though I ate at the grad party, I ate a nother whole meal with cheesecake, vanilla ice cream, and guava jelly for desert. And that was even more delicious than the party!
The two of us watched the movie Blood Diamond in the house and then got in the car where we drove around the city of Wailuku for 3 hours. Whoosh! That is such a strange city. They have really nice homes and neighborhoods, and then they host the biggest ghetto on the island, Central. Just the name of it gives a reaking odre. We picked up this guy I met earlier who is super nice but we found out later that he was wanted by the police earlier that day. I guess his girlfriend ran away, who he empregnated by the way and she's 14, and was staying at his appartment. Everyone who knew her thought she was kidnapped so they feared that he did it. I also learned that night that he used to steal cars in the nicer parts of Wailuku. We had to get gas at one point in the night and I was going to go in and pay cash for it. Deborah said "Only put $10 in, OK?" And he said, "Can you buy me a Monster?" as he handed me a $20. Then he said, "Can you also get the wanted sign inside of me and my girlfriend? It's a really good picture of the two of us." Shoots.
I had to say goodbye to everyone I met at church this morning. In the process, I almost made Mei Lan late for work at 1pm but it ended up being OK. Her little brother, our friend from church, and I went to go visit her and we got hooked up with wristbands to the pool.
Tonight I had the most scrumptious food! Mei, myself and 3 other girls went to Roy's to use a $50 gift certificate that I got from the cruise line for working so hard on the boat. One of the girls works there so we also got 50% off! I ordered $30 Lemongrass Crusted Ono and a French pear salad for my dinner! It was such a beautiful presentation that I took a picture of it even though I never do that. We got two euntres and all of our desserts on the house because they knew this girl and they kept running out of fish! So the bill was only $75. That meens we only spent $150 at this restaurant! I was totally expecting it to be so much more.
Currently the proud owner of a Buddah belly.

A Day for Hana
And a day indeed. I seem so surprised every time I hear about someone taking a half a day trip to Hana and back. They must be crazy. Yesterday was the second time I have been to the remote town barriered by lava rock with 300 foot cliff drops covered in untouched tropical forest. The two trips, though, were very different experiences.
Examining the transportation from the first trip, I was with 7 other girls in a minivan that have never been on this highway. On this trip, I was in the bed of a small truck with 4 other people and with 2 more up in front. The driver knew the streets pretty well so we were making 20-35MPH around 60 hairpin turns. Sometimes we were fearing for our lives. But what an adventure it was! We had the best view/seat too because we could see all of the walls of the rainforest.
Where we stopped:
- 1 dozen Krispy Kremes
- Banana bread from a Philipeano family off a hidden peninsula
- Shave Ice at the half way mark to the town
- Black Sand Beach where everyone layed rocks on my skin for therapy (ended up being such a load of crap, but it felt so warm)
- Hana dock and beach where we ate lunch. I had teriaki chicken. Mmm.
- Red Sand Beach (which is actually a cove that we dubbed as Pirates Cove because of the jaggid lava rocks that circle around it and the red and black sand from the cliffs.
I was so tired when I got back. I don't even remember how I fell asleep but somehow, I was laying in bed at 8:30 this morning.
Today I will pick up my paycheck, turn in my uniform, and say goodbye to the captain and crew. This all sounds very elaborate and official but really, it will take 10 minutes.
Then the beach, a graduation party, maybe Oceans 13 movie tonight, and meeting up with Deborah later.
Until then...

A Spider With Breakfast, Compliments of the Kitchen
What interesting times!
This morning, I went to the Gazebo Restaurant for the third time since I have been here and met up with some friends from work. They are some awesome people and they came into my life at a perfect time and they all love the Lord so much. We had some great conversation that soon became rather serious when all of the sudden, a giant rubber spider free-falls flat into the jams basket in the center of our table. The three girls surrounding me all leaped and screamed though I must say I knew it was coming. When I was here last summer, the eight of us from my Discipleship group sat at that same table and were pulled the same prank. The guys that are behind the tinted windows in the kitchen are the controlers of the eight-legged fiend that wrecks havic on a pleasent breakfast outing. They use fishing line to release 'Harold' (my personaly dubbed name for the thing) that is lined and pullied from the kitchen to the rafters above our plates. Once I saw them all jump, I looked straight at the peaking eyes coming from the cracked windows to my right, laughing almost as hard as they were. The whole restaurant stopped to see.
Today:
Kihei, located on the east side of the island facing south. It is where my D-group stayed last summer. I remember it having a less-developed feel to it where there are many free-lance venders at various kiosks.
Tomorrow:
Cruising the Hana Highway and headed to the end of the roat to the city of Hana and the Seven Sacred Pools. I suppose that it is my little taste of the lush, underdeveloped feel of Kaua'i that I will not get to experience while I am in the islands, but that is alright with me. There is always next summer :)
Yesterday:
Around 8am, I felt a little tug on one of my toes while I was asleep. For a moment, I though I had drempt it, but only seconds after I opened my eyes to check, I saw a little Hawaiian head with a mohawk hair cut pop his head out from the side of the bed. It was Mei's nephew, Silver, a little 4-year-old Chinese-Hawaiian boy who was at our house while his mommy was out running errands. Once he saw that I spotted him, he fell back down into hiding.
We spent the rest of the day with Silver, the mommy Sheyenne, and her newborn baby and Silver's "Sister Zhi" at baby beach. The way Silver says it is "Dider Die." I love those kids!
Later that afternoon, Mie's friend and mine, Bernice, asked me to lead worship with her for the youth group that night. That was a really cool experience. We played a game I played in the Jr. High group at Seacoast: Main Deck, Quarter Deck, Poop Deck. Scott and Carla would have been proud.
Things to come for sure:
1. Good grinds :)
2. Good beach days :)
3. Goodbyes :(

Rain
It started raining while I was in the middle of the ocean by myself. I was trying to drive the dinghy in a straight direction to the Maui Princess on the outside morey but the high winds and big swells sprayed salt water all over me and in my eyes. The flashlight was flipping out on me too as it was resting in my tightly flexed lap. Its a good thing the customers left already, I thought.
I'm so tired
I went to a Hawaiian high school graduation last night and I was overwhelmed! I have never seen a celebration so crazy. Every part of everyone's family graduating and their friends would come out to see the ceremony. They would have huge signs to find them, blow horns, and balloons by the dozens that would be tied on to this person. The best part was the leis they wore. Some had so many leis on that all that was showing was their eyes! It was hilarious and wonderful all at the same time! I gained some ideas for Crystals graduation in two weeks.
I learned how to make leis too! I can make tea leaf leis and plumeria leis!
Tonight, I had a party of 28 Asians for a rehersal dinner! They were all up and taking pictures instead of eating their food. They tipped so well though and all five of us got $123 in tips each! Too bad we don't see it until the check. And it doesn't help that I had 12 tables tonight for two hours.
Tomorrow I will have to be walking down this mountain to get to work because Mei finally got a job! and she will be working while I am here at her house. But what will make it all better is the pad thai I will be getting near the company's office. And I will have seen Pirates II all of the way through while I eat a bowl of ice cream.
I realized while I have been here that nothing is cold. Unless it is solid hard froxen, you will not feel coldness. Ice cream for instance is never frozen while it is in the freezer or out because it is half melted by the time you finish scooping it into your bowl. Ahh, I love ice cream though.

Bartending
Work was easy these last three work days. Wednesday ended up being a really early night where I got off at 5:30pm. And over Thursday and Friday, I was full bartender and was let off at 8:30pm. It was fun finally getting that experience of full bartending and talking to people while I mix their drinks.
Yesterday, while I was at the beach, Mei, Noah and I saw these canoes with sails on them lined all along the Kaanapali beach in front of all the hotels. I went over to the quickshade where what looked like the headquarters of some event was set up. I found out that anyone could sign up to go on one of these canoes for a little trip out in the ocean in between the islands. So I signed myself up and got to go on the world champion Quicksilver canoe with the team! I got to sit in the third seat and paddle with them too! We were going so fast with the sail that it was only about a 30 minute trip. It was so much fun though. I got some pictures with my waterproof camera while I was with them. It will be a while until I get them developed because I haven't used all of the pictures from the camera yet. It's not like you guys get to see any pictures I take on here anyway.
Then Mei and I saw a movie at the Front St. Cinema last night. We were going to see Knocked Up but we got there too late so we saw Mr. Brooks instead. Man, was that a sick and twisted movie. It is about a serial killer that has multiple personalities but can hide it really easily. The main character was really well off and successful and the movie was really good. The comedian Dane Kook is in it too! I think Mei might have had nightmares from it last night.
I want to get a Disneyland pass soon, if I have enough money to get through everything else this summer. And I want to get it soon so mine will expire near the same time as Beth's pass. And if I am living only 20 minutes away again this year, it would be a wise investment. I think my new roomates have one too. But the reason why I am thinking about it is because Beth called me at 7am today and told me that she was going to stop by Disneyland and get a caramel apple. That is so rad that she can just stop by and enjoy a little Disneyland during her day.
Graduation is tonight and I believe that Mei and I are going. There is a high school on the road that goes to our house, up the mountian we live on. It sits at the top of this road. But I was wrong about the graduation parties. I guess that we won't be going to any today because the seniors have grad night tonight and the school prefers that they go to that so that they don't go drinking (and driving) instead. It's a wise choice on their part. I'm just bummed that I don't get to go to any traditional Hawaiian graduation celebrations.
The beach is next though so there's nothing that a day at the beach can't fix. I also find it strange that the more I go to the beach, the whiter I look. Only certain parts of my body are getting tan and others are not seeing the light of day (not THOSE places). I mean to say that places like the sides of my legs on the inside and outside are really white. I should find where a nude beach is.
