Baby Beach, 2wks and Counting
There is a new girl working with us who is a new Christian believer. She is from Orange County and came here to Maui to go to Bible college in Kihei. It's really crazy talking to her because she is 25 years old but she asks me for Biblical perspectives and advice. She totally looks like she could be my age or younger too. But it is great talking to her and this other girl who is from Kona and a Christian. It was us three and Ben, our first mate, on Monday. If we weren't in such a rush, we were going to pray before the people came. It's great to finally have that atmosphere back. I feel like this is why God brought me with these girls here in Hawaii.
I am currently eating some Portugese chili, rice with soy sauce, and an Aloha Maid Passion Orange drink. Mmmm.
Mei told me a lot about her family's past and why they are the way they are. She really opened up to me last night and I really respect her for that. Things here now mean a lot more than what I took them for.
I figured that my last day of work is a week from today (Wednesday). And I get this weekend off. And I leave in 2 weeks! It is going so fast!
Sun. June 3rd- High school graduation here (lots of local food!!!)
Wed. June 6th- Last day of work
Fri. June 8th- All day going to Hana and back
Sat. June 9th- Head over to Kauai (if I decide to go) with Deborah and maybe Mei until June 12th
Wed. June 13th- Fly home

Wake Up to Portugese Sausage and Magnum P.I.
Today though, I'm helping the family here with their new house's insulation. I'm going to itch all day! And then I work at 2pm. I really wanted to fall asleep at the beach today but oh well.
Breakfast:
Egg scrambler with cheese and portugese sausage, cherries, and strawberries! Mmmmm.
There must be a marithon on every day because Mei's family has been watching Magnum P.I. all last night and this morning.

Pirates, Cockroaches, Dolphins!
I don't know what it is but when I see movies that take place in the kind of places I see them in makes it all the more real. That might not have made sense but an example of it would be when I saw Tomb Raider II that took place in China when my family and I were in Singapore. That was cool.
OK im taking a break. If I don't eat my ice cream right now, it will be soup. Mmmm, soup.
Im back.
So, since my long days of working I have realised that I see so many cockroaches(sp?) on this island. I have seen them everywhere: where I sleep, where I shower, in the kitchen where the food we make for our boat is prepared, even on the boat itself. It makes me want to take more showers thinking about it.
Actually, I have been thinking up a poem for Mei's family that relates to this:
I'm sorry I take so many showers
I'm sorry I eat all of your M&M's
But if you can get past those two things
I think we can still be friends
I'm still working on it. I might make another few lines for it too.
Tonight, while I was cleaning up from the dinner, I saw a huge ohana of dolphins by our boat. It was already pitch black dark, they were coming up for air all around the boat and some were even fishing and leaping in the air in attempt to catch an escaping victim. I love dolphins. Then I though what I would look like as a dolphin trainer. Sea World is in San Diego. Hmm.
Next day off is Tuesday and then next Saturday. Yay for two days off this week and no morning maintenance! I'm not going to have much money for after I come back from this and definetaly not after Ireland. Atleast I make it before I spend it.

16 Hours
This is how my days have been:
- Go to the dock at 8am
- Clean thr oil and gas out of compartments in the boat like the engine room
- Leave maintenance at 1:30pm to go home and scrub the grease and oil off my skin for waitressing
- Go to the warehouse where we prep the food at 2pm
- Go straight to the boat to prepare the tables and presentation of the boat
- The people come on at 6pm and stay until 8pm
- I get off the boat with them and drive the dinghy out the the outside morey alone and in the dark.
- Clean up the dining area, the gallies, scrub the decks, clean the heads, ect.
- Then we do more maintenance in more compartments until 11:30pm
- I am the one that usually has to cater so I pick up the truck from the parking lot, load all dishes, garbage, etc. and take it to the warehouse where I soak the dishes, take out trash, separate linnens, etc.
So I get off around 12am.
There's some fun days. But thank the Lord that they are over. Inspection is today and hopefully we pass with flying colors, or there will be flying heads.
I just woke up and it felt like a day off because I don't have to be at work again until 2pm! Though I work every day this week. I am trying to see if there is a midnight showing of Pirates of the Caribbean III for tonight. Someone told me that there was a showing at 8pm but I thought that wasn't possible. Either way I would be way tired again because I will have to work until late again tonight and might miss both.
On Tuesday morning, I went to Haleakala, which is the volcano on the east side of the island, to watch the sunrise. We left at 3am and I got back just in time to work at 8am. That was a long day. But the sunrise was so worth it! So beautiful...
I need to go wash my stinky uniform. Bye bye

Sleep All, We Sleep All Day
The original plan for my day off today was to wake up at 5am, get to the other side of the island by 6, and leave for Hana with Deborah, Sheldon, and Ashley. We both woke up, but then we realized how tired we were. Hana is never a relaxing trip. If you go, you are going to be hiking, swimming, climbing, and jumping off waterfalls. It is an amazing trip, it is just not a good idea to go with 4 hours of sleep on your only day off of the week. It will have to wait until another time of this trip.
There is a south swell in today! And it is supposed to stay for the next 4 days too! Since Mei and I just woke up at 11, we are getting some of her longboards and heading toward the beach. All that is stopping us now is that we don't have a way to get there with two 9+ foot longboards. We are trying to borrow the neighbors car but he is at work until 2pm and he has his board on so he is going out when he gets home too.
Check that. We just got a truck to use! But we have to wait an hour so I will be patient, PATIENT! No but it will be nice :)

Rescue!
Last night I saw Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller (I was about to put Afflack!)
Though I did not sit with Ben Stiller while I watched it. In fact I had a much better croud of close friends/family. It was Mei and her little brother Noah.
But before all that, I was scheduled to do maintenance yesterday morning.
I walked to the dock at the harbor in Lahaina and saw that there was none of my work crew there. Finally after waiting for a few minutes, on of the staff comes over to me and shows me that there is a boat that got stuck on the sand while getting out of the harbor. I looked and saw this fatty wide and long Whale Foundation boat way outside of the canal that they were supposed to use. They were practically in the break where there are surfers in the water.
So her and I went to the end of the dock where it was closest to the enterence/exit of the harbor and where the rest of the crew was. We just sat and made jokes about this company and captain because they are actually our competition!
Finally after a few minutes of jabbering, the coastguard (that has come full-fleet [2 giant boats, 5 little rescue dingies, and a HELLICOPTER]) came over to our captian of the Lahaina Princes and Maui Princess and asked for us to pull out this other boat from being stuck! So all 7 of us got on our old and insignificant boat compared to this one that was stuck and we rescued it! Yah for old, crappy boats!!
And then, two hours after we were supposed to start, we finally got to our boat out in the ocean and got to work. Maintenance was a pain in the neck. I had to crall in these little caverns of the boat where 1) there was salt build up underneith the bow where all of these lines were, and 2) behind the engines where it could fit all of about one person in. That second hole was the worst because I had to power wash all of the oil and gassoline and it was all in the air and I was breathing it all in. I can still feel it in my lungs. I don't think I have ever sweat that much either. I was soaking wet everywhere and that was before the power spray. It looked like I just came out of the water!
I have also been going to the beach and/or working. That morning of the last post, when I said I had that day off, well I lied. My boss called me shortly after that and asked me to work that night (Wednesday) because we had 109 people on board that night. That sucked my butt because I had to wait 10 tables and I only got $25 in tips over the three hours because I was a "walk on, walk off" person. But I think I am getting compensated for that night because I talked to the boss and she said that they weren't supposed to do that to me. I do only get $7.50 an hour anyway. It was the first mate JJ and this captain that hates me for some reason Crissy. She has a stick up her but or something because I am a good worker and everytime I work with her driving, she writes in her log that I worked less hours than I did. Again, I'm talking to the boss about that one. Piece of craps.
I might go to the beach again soon but before that, I am sending some postcards to peoples back home. Then I work tonight, tomorrow morning (boo for missing church), and tomorrow night.. along with the rest of the nights this next week. Then I have next Saturday off!
Peace to all,
Kristin

SUNBURNNN!
Last night, Mei and I went over to Kalea's house (a room with a bed, fridge, microwave, tv, and a bathroom) and watched Pirates #1. I am way excited for the third and final movie of the trilogy that is coming out next week! Hopefully we will be able to go and see it at midnight!
Today plans are:
just errands. I need to buy another bag just to store stuff in. I shall do that today. I sent my papa a birthday package. I hope he likes it. The card is the best part I think :)
I have also had the last two days off from work. That's why I can spend so much time dalleying around and doing nothing. Like get a sunburn.

Employment..
On Friday night, Mei Lan and I went to her cousin's BA graduation from the University of Hawaii though the ceremony was held here on Maui. It was a rad experience because everyone's whole families came out to drape the graduates with dozens of leis. Then a little after, we went back to Lahaina side and ate at this fancy restraunt where I had mahi mahi, coconut shrimp and hula cake! Mei's grandma from Oahu, Tutu, paid for the whole bill of about 25 people!
Then we picked up Mei's parents and little bradah from the airport late in the night. Noah is current practicing his monologue in the other room for a comercial audition today. He is the cuttest little ten-year-old!
I have only gone to the beach twice since I have been there but both times have been wonderful. I'm sure I will be going more often as the month goes by. I have work in a half an hour so I'm signing off.
But before I go, some island talk for ya:
"pow" - finished ("Let's go see if the movie's pow.")
"grind" - eat ("Let's go grind already.")
"... guys" - ... and co., and friends ("Hey, we're meeting up with Mei guys, ya?")
"dakine" - the kind, a kind ("Dis place is one of dakine.")
"ohana" - family ("Presenting, the Kinoshita Ohana.")
peace!

First 3 Days
I got in at around noon where my friend Deborah came to pick me up at the airport by her house. We went to their local (and the island's largest) mall that consists of many of those shops found in the UTC mall in La Jolla, S.D. After that, we met up with some of Deborah's friends and watched a movie and had some Kalua Pig for dinner that her parents made.
Wednesday
Debrah and I woke up at around 8am here which is 11am in CA and I had my first taste of SPAM. It wasn't what I expected it to be because it was flippin delicious! They fry it in soy sauce and plain white sugar and they make such things as spam musubi with this type of spam (add rice and seaweed).
I also got shaved ice at a janky local laundry mart nearby at 9 that night.
Thursday
Deb and I were going to wake up at 2:40am and head up the volcano to watch the sunrise but surprisingly, that didn't work out with us. So we woke up at 7 instead and went to I.H.O.P. with one of our friends, Sheldon who spotted the whole check :)
Then my other friend from school, Mei Lan, came in to the airport and we picked her up. Before her and I went to move in to her family's house in Lahaina, we went up the mountain (the west lump of dirt on Maui, not the volcano) and found a waterfall and pool to jump into. There was a river that was hidden deap in the forest on the north side of the moutain. Mei and I were sitting in the back of Sheldon's truck because it's only legal in HI! The same with wearing seatbelts: not necessary in the back seat for those 18+. Money.
We finally went to Lahaina where we went to the nicest beach I have ever seen. Some of Mei's friends came to her house and stayed playing music and learning ASL until 1:30am.
All in all some good times.
